PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for the oversight and implementation of marketing, communication and public relation activities. This position works closely with and reports to the Development Director.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)
Overarching Responsibilities:
- Leads the development and implementation of the marketing, social media, branding and communication activities for the organization.
- Coordinate and implement the execution of promotional and educational videos and production of relevant content for websites, blogs and social media.
- Assists in the planning and implementation all special events, both fundraisers and “friend-raisers,” ensuring quality promotion and execution.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and board members and other community partners to assure clear, consistent messaging and branding for the organization.
- Create & implement public relations plan including press releases, newsletters, annual report, website content, e-communications and social networking tools.
- Create all written and electronic information pieces for the organization, including flyers, brochures, newsletters and invitations.
- Write and create distribution lists for a semi-annual appeal letter. Write appeal letters and track all results. Maintain other mailing lists (postal and electronic) for distinct groups and general mailings.
- Make media contacts and work with various media outlets to seek coverage of organization’s programs and achievement.
- Work in coordination with Keyway’s Community Engagement Coordinator to represent the agency at community and educational presentations. Serve as an agency representative for the United Way.
- Create measures for recording success and opportunities for improvement in marketing and communication efforts; gather result data and produce reports for the leadership team
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
This position has no supervisory duties.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Frequent and regular internal contact with all Keyway staff to identify opportunities for marketing and communications.
- In depth reporting to the development director regarding marketing and communications plans.
- Interact with media outlets to promote the organization.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit marketing, business, or related field from accredited college or university required.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ prior marketing/communications experience.
Knowledge:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have excellent presentation skills.
- Must have high level of computer use skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google.
- Must have strong critical thinking skills and sound judgment.
- Must have excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Must have a high comfort level working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Must have a professional, approachable manner.
- Must be willing to learn new skills and have flexibility to adapt to change.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Ability to drive, valid driver’s license, and current insurance required.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to tolerate long periods of sitting.
- Ability to demonstrate the physical stamina to do some walking, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
- Ability to lift, push or pull objects weighing 25 pounds.
- Ability to demonstrate good finger/hand dexterity for typing, sorting, filing, etc.
- Ability to work under stress.
- Must pass background check and drug testing.
