House Monitor

Program Area: Schirmer House and Baker House
Reports to: House Monitor Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
 ​
GENERAL SUMMARY:  Supports the housing team in the capacity of an onsite presence during evening, overnight and weekend hours.  Responsible for providing a safe and secure residential environment.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains a safe facility by:
  • Supervising resident activities, entries, and exits.
  • Monitoring video surveillance equipment.
  • Walking the perimeter of the facility during shifts.
  • Monitoring residents and guests on the premises.
  • Conducting appropriate facility and room searches as needed in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  • Reporting situations of concern to the on-call supervisor and or emergency personnel when needed.
  • Monitors, secures, and logs resident medications.
  • Documents incidents, violations by residents and other activity as required in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  • Conducts drug and alcohol testing and record keeping as required in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  • Answers the telephone in the security office.
  • Documents residents’ belongings upon move-in and move out.
  • Attends periodic house manager meetings and/or team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Education:  High school diploma or GED and two years of work experience, including military or self-employment, required; previous experience in security setting and experience working with offenders and/or at-risk population preferred.
  • Must have good communication skills, conflict management skills, and be able to  set and maintain boundaries.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to document/log information timely and accurately.
  • Must be willing to work with a diverse group of people respectfully and non judgmentally.
  • Must pass background check and drug testing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to tolerate long periods of sitting.
  • Ability to demonstrate the physical stamina to do some walking and to climb stairs; ability to do moderate pushing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to demonstrate good finger/hand dexterity for typing, sorting, filing, etc.
  • Ability to work and under stress.
