Project Re-Connect
The Center for Women in Transition is the lead agency in Project Re-Connect, a collaborative program that assists individuals who have been released from prison after maxing out their sentences. The program provides ex-offenders with an individual support plan of resources and services for the first six months after release.
Since Project Re-Connect began in March 2007, only 2 percent of its participants have committed new offenses, compared to 23 percent of those offenders in St. Louis who are not enrolled in the program. At the end of the six-month program, many participants have jobs and apartments, and most are effectively managing their addictions and/or mental health issues. Due to this success, Project Re-Connect has been refunded by the state for a second year!
Resources and services that may be available through Project Re-Connect include:
- Case Management
- Housing Assistance
- Funding for Food & Clothing
- Education
- Mentoring
- Life/Job Skills Training
- Mental Health/Substance Abuse Treatment
