Volunteer Highlight: Mentors
For over 10 years Center for Women in Transition has been assisting women who have been incarcerated to successfully transition from the criminal justice system back into the community. Mentors work with women who are working to rebuild their lives. They must be women over the age of 25 and willing to commit a minimum of one hour per week for a period of one year and assist a woman develop healthy and productive goals.
Volunteer as a group!
Lunch and Learn
Summary: Prepare lunch with women in our program and organize an afternoon of activities or workshops. Must be twenty-one years of age or older. Popular learning areas include gardening, computer skills, and arts & crafts.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours
Donation Crew
Summary: On the fourth Saturday of every month volunteers assist the Center in sorting and organizing our in-kind donations.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours
Bridging Home
Summary: Invite 10 to 15 friends into your home for a light meal and a presentation by Center for Women in Transition staff. Help us spread the word out about our mission.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours
Saturday Gatherings
Summary: Donate food for gatherings at which women attend presentations on topics ranging from self esteem to budgeting.
Time commitment: Varies. Saturday Gatherings take place on the third Saturday of every month from 10:30am-11:30am.
Ongoing Opportunities
Development Assistant
Summary: Provide assistance to the Center’s development office, including help with managing donor records, sending donor acknowledgements and running reports, as needed.
Time commitment: 2-4 hours weekly.
Saturday Gathering Volunteer
Summary: Attend monthly Saturday Gatherings and assist with child care of mentees’ children.
Time commitment: 10am-11:30am, 3rd Saturday of each month.
Volunteer Office Assistant
Summary: Provide administrative assistance to the Center’s main office, including help with mass mailings, correspondence, filing, and answering the telephones.
Time commitment: 2-4 hours weekly.
