Mission & History

Mission:

The Center assists women in the criminal justice system in making a successful transition to their families and communities through practicing and promoting restorative justice.

History:

The Center for Women in Transition was founded in November 1997 after a group of women working in criminal justice ministries met with a group of women who had been incarcerated and identified the basic causes of recidivism in women. This group determined the aids that recently released women need to reduce recidivism and re-establish healthy lives. The Center was established to provide these aids, beginning with mentoring and advocacy.
